In 2022, Noclip started a new side channel called Noclip Crew where we produced more casual content like Quick Looks (yes we stole that from Giant Bomb) of new and old games, long-form gameplay VODs, Steam Next Fest round-ups, and a series called Developer Breakdown.
This series was our attempt at making smaller, more focused mini-docs with a single interview subject. We still covered broader topics of design and implementation, but again we wanted to make something on the more punchy side. I had the pleasure of doing post-production on most of these episodes, including ones on Weird West and Unpacking. Doing game capture for the Weird West project was a particularly enjoyable process - turns out im-sims are always fun.
My proudest episode though, is the one that I hosted for the show about Neon White.
Ben was really insightful and open about the whole process of designing that game with his team, and it made for a smooth and entertaining interview. Capturing footage of a speed running game was a bit of a challenge - you can't make yourself look bad otherwise you'll seem like a poser, which I'm not I swear! - but it was straightforward enough. Finding a way to pace things out in these shows, to both make the interviewer come across clearly from a more laid-back and unscripted conversation was a new task for me, but one that I felt I performed well. I'm still really proud of this episode!
